One of the nine camp counselors at the Hackett’s Quarry summer camp, Jacob is the self-centered jock who still wants everyone at camp to have a great time. However, his obnoxious behavior can get him into trouble throughout the game. So, you want to save Jacob and solve the Breaker Puzzle in The Quarry? It’s important to make the correct choices beforehand so that you can solve the puzzle when the time comes.

How to Save Jacob and Solve the Breaker Puzzle in The Quarry

(Updated on August 8, 2024 – updated links and format)

There’s a chance for him to die in Chapters 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10. Most of these occur before you ever get to the Breaker Puzzle in The Quarry. So, let’s make sure Jacob makes it to that point in the first place for you to save him. One thing to keep in mind is that when Jacob’s messing with the van, take the rotor arm. Now, let’s start to figure out how to save Jacob in the lead up to the puzzle in The Quarry.

Save Jacob in Chapters 3, 4, and 6

Chapter 3

When Jacob loses the rotor arm while swimming with Emma, choose to DIVE IN rather than HELP ABI as that will gain you some new evidence. His hand will get stuck. Don’t pull, as that will lead to Jacob drowning. Instead, you want to choose DETANGLE to keep him alive.

Chapter 4

As you control Ryan at the bonfire, the bushes will shake. To save Jacob in this part of The Quarry, don’t shoot the bushes since this is him.

Chapter 6

First, when the werewolf interrupts Jacob and Emma, make sure you succeed with each QTE. Afterward, choose HIDE and make sure to hold your breath.

Next up, when Jacob gets stuck in a bear trap, you can either PULL FREE or PRY OPEN. You can choose either one, but remember that PULL FREE has a QTE that you must succeed with, or Jacob will die.

The Quarry Save Jacob Breaker Puzzle

Now we’re getting closer to the Breaker Puzzle in The Quarry.

Chapters 8 and 9

Jacob is now held in a cage, and he’ll certainly die if you choose not to free him in Chapter 8.

First, don’t let Ryan open the cage during the interruption event. Next, Laura will then near the werewolf cage. Use the interruption event to stop Lauren from touching the cage.

Now, you must agree to help free Jacob from the cage. With that agreed upon, you can save Jacob in The Quarry if Ryan opens the right door. Here’s where the Breaker Puzzle comes in. You must pull the breakers in the correct order. We laid that out via steps below:

  • Choose Breaker One and Two
  • Select Continue
  • Choose Breaker Two and Three

This selection will free Jacob.

This will happen if Ryan did not kill Chris Hackett in the previous chapter. Jacob will then get chased down by a werewolf. To save Jacob here in The Quarry, RUN from Chris and succeed with all of the QTEs.
