Releasing on Prime Video back in 2021, the epic sci-fi film, The Tomorrow War, was a huge overall success upon its initial release. However, news about the long-awaited sequel has been silent over the years, with no further details being announced. Luckily for fans of the first film, director Chris McKay has finally given an update on The Tomorrow War 2. You can check out his official statement below.
“Yeah, because they released it worldwide on the same day. Literally, they released it around the world. I still get DMs from people from India and Brazil, and people who are discovering it, who loved that movie and loved the characters and stuff like that. Ultimately, it was a really great experience. But it was one of those things where, of course, you’re making a movie for the theaters. And then the movie was done, and they were like, “No, we’re going to put it on a streamer.” It was a little bit of a hard pill to swallow because I’d seen it in theaters, and I’d seen how it played. And still to this day, it still plays on Amazon. It’s still one of their number one movies to this day.”
What We Know About The Tomorrow War 2 So Far – Update
The Tomorrow War is a 2021 American military science fiction film directed by Chris McKay. The film was also produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, David S. Goyer, Jules Daly, and Adam Kolbrenner and written by Zach Dean. The film stars Chris Pratt (who also was an executive producer), Yvonne Strahovski, J. K. Simmons, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge, Jasmine Mathews, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, and Keith Powers. The official synopsis for The Tomorrow War reads the world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrives from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species.
Currently, plot details are being kept under wraps, though Chris McKay has previously expressed his hopes for the sequel to begin expanding the time-traveling world of the original film. There are no casting announcements for the sequel other than prior reports of The Tomorrow War 2 wanting to feature Edwin Hodge and Yvonne Strahovski. With McKay hoping that the sequel will finally receive the green light, it does seem likely that he will return to direct. Chris Pratt will most likely return for the sequel due to his ongoing relationship with Prime Video and the recent success of The Terminal List.
