According to a press release from Amazon Studios, a television adaptation of Robert Jordan’s sprawling, fantasy epic, The Wheel of Time series, has officially been greenlit. Rafe Judkins, known for his work on Agents of SHIELD and Chuck, will be working as showrunner for the one-hour adaptation of the fantasy series.
While this is definitely exciting news, at the moment, this is the only news. There has been no casting information or release window announced, and it isn’t entirely clear as to how the television series will pan out. But, that being said, we’re excited to hear more!
Amazon provided the following synopsis:
The Wheel of Time is set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists, but only women can use it. Meaning that in this series — women hold the keys to power. The story follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the ‘Aes Sedai’ as she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. Moiraine’s interested in these five because she believes one of them might be the reincarnation of an incredibly powerful individual, whom prophecies say will either save humanity or destroy it.
Back in July, Judkins teased the script for the first draft of The Wheel of Time series on his Twitter. From what we can tell in the picture, he’s working on the first episode titled “Leavemaking”. This is the title for a handful of chapters throughout the series, but, more importantly, it is one of the first chapters in the first book: The Eye of the World.
