The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer, CD Projekt RED, has confirmed its plans to release a Game of the Year Edition for the hugely popular RPG, open-world title. In a statement made to Eurogamer, the game’s director, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, explained, “With all the free DLC and updates the game received so far, including significant changes to the game’s interface and mechanics, many gamers have asked us if we’re working on some sort of a Game of the Year Edition. I’m happy to confirm – yes, plans are in motion to release such an edition.” In other words, we should all be getting our wallets ready!
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was first released in May 2015 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and it was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews, including a solid score of ninety-two on Metacritic. The game wraps up the story of famous witcher Geralt of Rivia, who players have followed over the course of two previous Witcher titles. Since The Witcher 3’s debut, CD Projekt RED has released two DLCs for the game. The first was Hearts of Stone, which came out in October of 2015. The second and final one was Blood and Wine, which came out this past May. Both of the DLCs were well-received by players, as they allowed us to see newer and more complex sides of Geralt and even more world expansion.
Though a plethora of games has received the “Game of the Year Edition” treatment over the years, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has proved that it is more than deserving. Also, if you recall the 2015 Video Game Awards, The Witcher 3 actually took home the “Game of the Year” title, beating out other highly anticipated games like Bloodborne, Fallout 4, and even Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Though there is no release date for the Game of the Year Edition yet, players can expect to see one in the coming months. For more on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you can read The Nerd Stash’s review of the game here.
