After a recent teaser for The Witcher 4 showed a new medallion featuring an unknown animal on it, the world went wild, not only for the news that a new saga was coming to our screens but also about what this animal could be. Was it a tiger? Was it a cougar? Today, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the medallion featured in the new teaser is from the new “School of the Lynx”, a school seemingly invented for the new Witcher game.

What do The Witcher 4 devs say?

In a recent interview, the director of global communications for the developer confirmed the rumors circulating over the past few days about the new school not being a currently canon Witcher school. Robert Malinowski said that “Some mysteries should not be so mysterious; I can confirm that the medallion is, in fact, shaped after a lynx.”

This news could disappoint and excite fans of the series. This confirms that Geralt and the school of the Wolf will not appear in this new game – which is terribly upsetting – but it does confirm a brand-new exciting school will be blessing our screens.

What fans know already about the lore of the Witcher’s guild is that along with the Wolf school is the school of the Cat, Griffin, Bear, Viper, Manticore, and the Crane. All of those schools have varying degrees of involvement in the series as it stands, so to explore a brand-new school in great detail will be a lot of fun. But if you are worried about them creating a new school, just remember that CD Projekt Red has already created the schools of the Bear, Viper, Manticore, and the Crane for their previous games, the books themselves only feature the original Wolf, Cat, and Griffin schools. So, that does tell us that this Lynx school is in very safe hands. Keep your ear to the ground for any more “Witcher 4” news as it develops.
