Ready your coins, lords and ladies, because there is more of The Witcher on the way! Earlier today, Netflix took to their social medias to announce that The Witcher: Blood Origins, a prequel series, is now in the works!
@NXonNetflix tweeted a short description of the new Witcher series. Presumably, Blood Origins will detail the beginnings of The Witcher:
1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be.
Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
As of this writing, there aren’t many details aside from what the short tweet detailed, but, it’s safe to say that we won’t be seeing this prequel series anytime soon. The second season of the original series delayed filming until August due to COVID-19, but there has been no official word since this announcement.
If that’s not enough, a Witcher anime film, Nightmare of the Wolf, has also been announced by Netflix. The animated film will focus on a young Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor, who may or may not be played by Mark Hamill in the live-action series.
None of the projects above have an official release date as of yet, but, the best-selling series by Andrzej Sapkowski is complete and available. For those new to the series, IGN created a helpful reading guide for The Witcher saga.
