The Young and the Restless is generating buzz its storyline involving Nikki Newman and Jack Abbott. Recently, the Newman matriarch has been struggling with her sobriety because of Jordan. During her time of need, Nikki has been leaning on her friend/ex-husband Jack for support. He knows what it’s like to have an addiction, so it’s understandable why Nikki would turn to him. However, his latest attempt to convince Nikki to stop drinking is sparking backlash.
Jack Relapses to Teach Nikki a Lesson on The Young and the Restless
Years ago, Jack developed an addiction to pain pills. His life was spiraling out of control until an intervention from his family saved his life. However, he’s now risked his sobriety to save Nikki.
On the May 2, 2024 episode of The Young and the Restless, Nikki called him for help. Jack arrived at her hotel room to find her drunk. He dished out a dose of tough love by giving Nikki a stern lecture, but she wouldn’t listen. Jack then took an unconventional approach by indulging in alcohol and pills. His behavior shocked Nikki, but the Abbott patriarch wanted to teach her a lesson.
Nikki panicked when he passed out and she had to call an ambulance. Luckily, Jack awoke and with the exception of a hangover seemed fine. Realizing she needed professional help, Nikki promised to check into rehab.
The scenes have been a hot topic with The Young and the Restless viewers. On a Soaps.com forum, most fans voiced their dislike for the storyline.
One viewer wasn’t thrilled with the idea:
Ugh. It sounds like this story is going from bad to worse.
Another commenter was also fed up:
I’m about done with Nikki and her drinking so I’m not up to Jack joining her. I would rather see something different, the show is so depressing.
Another viewer agreed it’s awful what they did to Jack:
I was hoping Jack wouldn’t join her. I’m surprised and saddened to see him like this. The show is worth seeing even if it is hard to watch. I thought we were done with Nikki being drunk. But no, now we have two of them off the wagon.
Fans have a right to be worried about the storyline because chances are this is leading to Jack relapsing. Having Jack risk his own sobriety to save Nikki is another confusing idea from the writers. While the show thought it was a poignant scene to set up another dramatic story, it’s not winning over viewers.
