Two photos on Reddit this week reveal a stark difference between the Chicago Tesla protests of March 8th and 29th. The first shows a line of police officers standing guard over the electric vehicle showroom, protecting the property within. The second shows the sidewalk flooded with protestors instead. Though it’s not like all the cops in Illinois have vanished, it shows how strong anti-Musk sentiment is. Protestors are flocking to the streets week after week to make their objections heard. Though the oligarch himself might not care, his allies and shareholders might. Either way, it’s a fight Chicago seems ready for.
Protestors Replace Police in Chicago Tesla Pics
Chicago has seen a variety of protests lately. Whether it’s congresspeople and council members getting called out or Tesla demonstrations, the city isn’t going silently into that good night. On the contrary, organizers and activists have done a great job of turning righteous anger into constructive action. Getting people to mobilize is never easy, but that’s just how hateable Elon Musk has made himself. At this rate, his fascistic tampering with the U.S. government might unite all of Chicago. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time the city rallied around its dislike for other people’s behavior.
A Reddit post by u/IAMACORY about the changes to the Chicago Tesla protests received over 3.2k upvotes and numerous supportive comments. “This is great. Glad we aren’t losing focus/energy,” said one. Indeed, if anything, it seems like the anti-Tesla movement is only growing. Performing Nazi salutes, gutting federal programs, and trying to buy elections aren’t doing the oligarch any favors either. Another commenter addressed the sizable crowds, saying,
The protest was even larger than this photo shows. There were protesters at all 5 corners of the intersection.
Chicago locals have been as outspoken in their criticism of Trump, Musk, and Tesla as anyone. Although two photos can only tell so much of a story, it looks like there won’t be quiet in Chicago until at least some of America’s many wrongs are righted. That could take a while, to say the least.
