Republican Sen. Katie Britt is accusing the Democratic Party of being overrun by socialists who “actually hate America.” The Alabama lawmaker made the remarks during a recent appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, where she argued that the left-wing party no longer represents traditional American values.
“I think what we’re seeing is beyond alarming,” Britt stated. “And I think the Democratic Party has been taken over by the far left, by the Democrat Socialists of America.”
The senator claimed the socialist group appears to be united by its hatred of America. She argued that the policies they support would strip Americans of their freedoms and create greater dependence on the government.
As examples to support her argument, Britt took shots at Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and New York socialist politician Darializa Avila Chevalier. She criticized El-Sayed over a recording leaked earlier this year in which he reportedly strategized avoiding public comment on the killing of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
“He didn’t want to say anything about the Ayatollah being killed because he was afraid that people in Michigan were sad about it,” Britt said, referring to members of Dearborn’s Muslim community. She also condemned Chevalier’s past post about wiping her hands on an American flag instead of using a napkin, calling it “disgusting and despicable.”
“I think we have to call them out for what they are. And we have to realize that the Democratic Party is completely and totally lost and it is beholden to the socialists of America. It’s a sad day,” the senator said.
Netizens’ Reaction to the Alabama Rep’s Remarks
The interview sparked mixed reactions on X. Some viewers felt Britt and other Republicans did not have the moral standing to pass such judgment on Democrats.
“Same old, lame, fear mongering by Republi[cans] because they have done NOTHING for Americans,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “The Republican Party had been taken over by the evil and the love of money.” A third added, “I’m a former Republican. I left the party because of the GOP’s abandonment of virtues and principles.”
Some conservatives also joined in, arguing that Republicans have failed to deliver on their promises.
“Yet you still haven’t helped your constituents especially me. I’ve spoken with your representative here in Tuscaloosa and still nothing. Will be homeless in 6 weeks because of our state and your votes,” one person commented.
Another said, “Yeah, we know that, Katie. That’s why we overwhelmingly elected your party…to stop the takeover. And what did we get? Weak, feckless theater kids, so accomplished in their selective outrage.” Someone else chimed in, “In the future, our kids will study what finally finished of the Democrat party and their pitiful history and the weak Republicans that gave so much ground to them.”
Some other netizens urged Britt to spend less time attacking Democrats and more time pushing legislation that they believe would have a greater impact on Americans, including the SAVE Act.
