Unable to deal with their messy neighbors any longer, one tenant in a Colorado apartment left a note on their front door, urging them to be clean. However, one woman next door feels as though this note is anything but a friendly request and indicates some hints of racism. She goes by Trybltn on Reddit and shared pictures of the neighbor’s message on r/Apartmentliving. Her suspicions weren’t seemingly subjective, as countless Redditors also feel as though the note’s author might have some prejudice against Hispanic people.
Trybltn says she removed the note from the front door before her neighbors saw it since it “rubbed us the wrong way.” The trash valet reportedly hasn’t been picking up trash for days, making cleanliness management a headache. Still, she felt as though the tone of the note and the pig drawing conveyed more than a simple request for the neighbor to stop being messy.
“Our hall isn’t even dirty, though. I’m wondering if it’s racially motivated,” Trybltn wrote. She continued, “My apartment has a lot of Hispanic families. My concern is they are being called dirty because they are Hispanic.” Allegedly, the Hispanic neighbors who got the note are “very clean people,” leaving Trybltn quite confused as to why anyone would leave a complaint.
Reddit Agrees with The Colorado Woman: The Note Was Written With Racial Intent
Plenty of Reddit users reacted to the note confidently believing that it was indeed racially motivated. “Any note-making accusations about ‘you people’ is unhinged as hell,” said a commenter. “The ‘you people’ is overtly racist. Idgaf what anyone says to the contrary,” agreed another. “That is a terrible note,” exclaimed a third.
Several people also praised the Colorado woman for showing her support for the Hispanic family. “I am glad you took it off, protecting them from hate,” wrote a Redditor. “Thanks for being a good human,” remarked a second.
Trybltn did end up telling her Hispanic neighbors about the note to keep them informed. “She was upset, but grateful,” OP recalled. It wasn’t long before one of the family members was installing a camera outside their front door for security.
