An X post claiming a flood of House Democrats are pushing to block New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries from becoming Speaker, with some Democratic senators also seeking to replace Chuck Schumer, has drawn thousands of reactions. According to reports, multiple House members said they have received hundreds of calls and emails urging them not to support Jeffries ahead of leadership elections later this month. Online users have responded by mocking the reported internal Democratic tensions following the party’s midterm gains.

The video shows a compilation of Fox News segments covering Democratic leadership questions after the midterm elections. In the clip, on-screen graphics display text including “Leadership Showdown,” “Dem Leadership Elections Set for Nov 18 & 19,” and an Axios headline reading “House Democrats ‘Inundated’ With Anti-Jeffries Calls.”

The footage also includes segments featuring Michigan Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed and Minnesota Senator-elect Peggy Flanagan discussing Senate leadership, along with New York Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The footage does not make it clear what specific words the individuals said beyond the on-screen chyron and graphics.

According to the Axios report referenced in the video, more than a dozen House Democrats and aides said members have received hundreds of calls and emails urging them not to support New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker. One incoming Democrat described receiving “about 150” calls, a senior Democrat reported “over 500” in two days, and another said “I think our numbers are higher” than 500, calling it “our No. 1 issue, and it’s not close.”

A Democratic chief of staff noted many callers wanted “make Jamie Raskin speaker.” Democratic leadership elections are scheduled for November 18-19, with the full House vote for Speaker set for January 3.

Responses to the Video of the Democratic Leadership Reports

Some commenters focused on the reported tensions and mocked the situation, writing “They are literally gonna eat each other alive. Lol,” “Who could have ever seen this coming?” and “We tried to warn them, the DSA wing is taking over.”

Others responded with “Epic!” and “Good!” or called for changes, with one writing, “Get rid of Schumer and Jeffries. They are as corrupt as hell.”

In contrast, some Democratic lawmakers pushed back on the pressure. Rep. Sam Liccardo said, “I’ll be supporting Hakeem Jeffries, and anybody talking about a challenger is just selling tickets to a circus with no tent.”

Rep. Jim Himes stated, “Jeffries absolutely will be speaker,” while other members described the odds of anyone else winning the gavel as “none” or “0.0%.”

The video continues to circulate as House Democrats prepare for their leadership elections later this month. How those votes unfold remains to be seen.
