A Georgia McDonald’s worker claims she was sent home over her ginger braids, leading her and her aunt to quickly search for a solution so she could return to work. After sharing the experience on TikTok, commenters questioned the company’s policy and urged her to contact corporate or sue. Others doubted her hair color was the real reason she was sent home.
Shared to TikTok by @ykluhslim, the brief video opens with a look at the Georgia creator’s ginger braids before showing the hair store she’s visiting. “At the store right now because they made me go home cause of my hair,” she says. The clip then cuts to her putting on a black wig with her aunt’s help. She then tells the camera she plans to head back to work now.
Viewers Rally Around Her Hair
Many viewers saw the Georgia McDonald’s overreach as a big problem. “Gurl please ain’t no job gonna play in my face especially McDonald’s,” one wrote. Another said they worked at McDonald’s for years with red hair and tattoos, arguing that the company was “hating on you cuz you pretty“. A former manager of several locations said they had never heard of this rule and urged her to call corporate.
Others took it a step further, arguing she should consider legal action. “Sue them. Ginger is a neutral hair color. They don’t pay enough to tell you how to wear your hair,” one commenter wrote. Another called it “a microaggressive enforcement” and argued that copper and ginger are natural hair colors, suggesting she ask management to show her the rule in the handbook. One viewer also brought up the CROWN Act and suggested she check whether it applied in her state.
Not everyone was convinced that McDonald’s was in the wrong. One viewer said, “gonna assume you got sent home for an entirely different reason because that didn’t happen.” Another viewer took a simpler view, arguing that the Georgia creator should just follow the company’s rules.
Black hair has long been treated as something that needs to be controlled or changed to fit someone else’s standards. This situation resonated with viewers who felt that being sent home over braids was another example of Black workers having to alter their appearance just to keep their jobs.
