A Colorado TikToker says that “universal housing” should be a given for everybody in America. After something he witnessed in his neighborhood, he’s shocked by the extent people need to go to just to have a place to call home. Now, he’s speaking out about the injustice.
TikToker @chocolate.speaks saw something that left him astounded and appalled in his Colorado neighborhood. While walking, he came across an old, beat-up vehicle sitting in a parking lot. The vehicle had a tarp attached to the top and cardboard patching up its windows. In one of the windows, you can see an air conditioner blowing air inside the vehicle for whoever is inside.
As this Colorado TikToker says, “At this point, can we just please make housing something that people cannot profit off of anymore? ‘Cause at this point, I’ve seen it all.” He pans closer to the vehicle and says, “This is true innovation right here.” It’s not known if the person is living inside their vehicle full-time. However, this is what many Americans face on a daily basis, and he took this as his chance to speak out about it.
@Chocolate.speaks says that housing should be something that is just given to people for free. Then, we wouldn’t have to see people living in their vehicles all over the country. He adds, “Once we wake up and tax the rich so many things like housing would be provided for by our government. Yes, I do believe housing is a human right.” He claims that, “Since we don’t tax billionaires, people are living in their cars with literal air conditioners out of their cars. It could all be so simple but we have to make it hard.”
The video immediately sparked reactions from viewers. Many shared their opinions on what he witnessed, as well as what they think the solution should be. One commenter pointed out, “I bet that person also has a job” and they’re still in that position. Another shared, “The fact that I most likely pay more taxes than a billionaire is ludicrous to me.” One commenter added, “Housing, food, water, education, they all need to be free in my opinion.”
One commenter shared what things are like in other countries. They stated, “China doesn’t have any homeless people. They are secured in home rentals even if they get laid off work and pay rent to have housing. Imagine that. Our government doesn’t care about their people.” Commenters continue to share their opinions on his video as it gains attention and popularity.
