ICE agents are now also targeting kids. It is no longer a secret, and there has been a growing number of reports about children going missing alongside their parents. In many cases, these children were reportedly used as bait to draw their parents out. The majority of those detained are sent to a detention center in Texas. One can only wonder what happens behind the walls of the detention center, especially when families are involved.
One lawyer recently had a disturbing experience connected to the Texas detention center. He said he was there for an attorney visit when he was unexpectedly told to leave the premises. At first, the request made little sense, but he soon realized the reason was that detained people inside the detention center were holding a demonstration. According to the lawyer, he could clearly hear children chanting alongside adults, repeatedly calling to be let out.
As he stood outside in the parking lot, the lawyer said he could see through the wired gate a large crowd, which he described as hundreds of people. He could not get any closer, however, because there were officers in blue shirts stationed around the Texas detention center. He also noted that drones were flying overhead, clearly monitoring the area and ensuring that no one approached the detention center without authorization.
In another video, the shouts coming from inside the Texas detention center could be heard more clearly. The voices, especially those of children, echoed with urgency and fear. Despite this, one ICE agent on standby appeared displeased with the lawyer remaining nearby and attempting to document what was happening around the detention center. She ordered him to leave. He replied that he was outside the facility and that there was no rule prohibiting people from standing in that location near the detention center. His explanation did not matter. The agent continued yelling at him to leave.
Online, internet users reacted with anger and distress at what they were seeing and hearing. Many commented that the Texas detention center bore a troubling resemblance to historical concentration camps from World War II in Nazi Germany. “This breaks my heart,” one user said. Others remarked that the video was damning evidence of how ICE agents were now openly targeting kids and families who had done nothing wrong. “Obviously more evidence of DHS’s and Greg Bovino’s agents’ so-called expertise in dealing with children and the so-called fantastic care they are providing. I’m sure this is the sound of agents playing soccer with children in detention,” one user said sarcastically.
Some users also criticized and condemned the woman who ordered the lawyer to stop recording and leave the area near the Texas detention center. Many found her decision to join ICE and seemingly ignore the cries of fear and distress from the children inside the detention center to be horrifying and deeply troubling. “A woman telling him no cameras while children scream inside. This is abhorrent,” one user wrote.
