Three Destiny 2 Expansions Are Now Free Until The Final Shape Release

It’s about time.

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

We all know how much Bungie likes money and how they like to lock everything behind payments. We’ve been having to pay loads of money for every expansion that’s come out since the beginning of Destiny 2, but today, Bungie surprised us quite a bit with a Twitter/X post detailing some interesting news about some past expansions. While this is great news for everyone that’s just getting into Destiny 2 and are gearing up for The Final Shape, it’s giving the veterans a reason to be irritated about spending all the money they did for the same thing players are now getting for free.

Effective immediately, the Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen expansions will be free for all Destiny 2 Guardians. However, there’s a bit of a catch. These price changes will only be around from May 7th until June 3rd, right in time for the launch of The Final Shape.

However, some Guardians are somewhat concerned with the changes. A few of them have been wondering what will happen if they obtain the Stasis subclass during the Free-to-play period, and if they’ll be able to keep in when The Final Shape releases. Others have been commenting on the @DestinyTheGame Twitter/X post about how unfair it is that they had to pay for all the content, only for newcomers to get free access to it for an entire month. Other players are even asking for refunds for their purchases.

While this is a great thing that Bungie’s done, it’s still a problem in the eyes of the Destiny 2 community. I can understand where they’re coming from. However, if you really think about it, Lightfall wasn’t included, so players will still be forking out cash to purchase the expansion that allows them to get the Stasis subclass before The Final Shape releases.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
