Tom Cruise might be filming his next action movie in outer space. He and Elon Musk’s SpaceX are in early talks with NASA.
Considered one of the biggest action movie stars on the planet thanks to many films over the last few decades including the Mission: Impossible franchise. Now, he might be taking over outer space too.
According to Deadline, an upcoming action-adventure starring Tom Cruise movie might be the first feature film to ever shoot scenes in outer space.
Cruise who always enjoys doing his own stunts – including scaling the tallest building in the world for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and flying a fighter jet for Top Gun: Maverick  – is known to constantly push the boundaries of what can be done in action, and he’s with Elon Musk’s SpaceX program and NASA to try and achieve this never-done-before stunt.
This is not the first time that the idea of filming movies in space has been brought up in recent times. Colin Trevorrow revealed that he had wanted to film some scenes for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but he exited the project before anything could come to pass.
While the concept of filming in outer space would be a unique selling point for any film, the logistics of the idea – of whether a crew would need to travel with the actor,  what other options would the production team have – is complicated and needs quite a bit of thought.
The potential Cruise’s mystery project can’t be predicted yet as it is still in its very early stages and many details haven’t been ironed out.
There is no studio attached, and there are no details as to who is involved as a writer or director. In fact, with the current state of the world, it is even too early to tell if it’ll actually happen.
For now, all we know is Tom Cruise might be going to space for his next movie – and the idea is more than enough to be excited about.
