Tony Romo Mocked by Wisconsin Fans as he Smirks in Drunk Driving Mugshot: ‘Can’t even drive without getting intercepted’

Is this roughing the passer?

One of the NFL’s top TV analysts spent Thursday night somewhere he’s never called a game from: the back of a Milwaukee County squad car. After his mugshot was posted, Green Bay fans in Wisconsin took to roasting him and having some fun at his expense.

Tony Romo, CBS Sports’ lead NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Romo, 46, was pulled over around 6:18 p.m. while driving southbound on Interstate 43 near downtown Milwaukee and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. He was booked on a first-offense OWI charge and released around 11 p.m. He’s due in court Sept. 21.

Romo was reportedly in his home state for the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, which had just wrapped up that day in West Bend, which is about 30 miles from Burlington, Wisconsin, where he grew up. His mugshot shows him mildly smiling for the camera.

Wisconsin Citizens React to Arrest

Reaction on TMZ’s X post was brutal and swift, though some were genuinely upset at how a famous and rich person like him would ever risk his career by drunk driving. One user joked: “Can’t even drive without getting intercepted.” Another wrote: “Good, now CBS will fire him and we won’t hear him on Sunday afternoons anymore.” A third commenter offered: “He probably just thought it was legal there. Everyone’s always at least a little drunk there.“

CBS Sports has declined to comment. So has Tony Romo’s camp. For a guy paid to explain every play, nobody’s explaining this one. Whether he will be able to continue his job, or if we can expect him announcing and doing play-by-play this season, is also currently unknown. If he doesn’t get suspended, one thing is for sure: he’d better hire a driver moving forward.
