It’s tough surviving on an island filled with Cannibals and otherworldly monstrosities, especially if you haven’t met with Kelvin or Virginia. You will need to arm yourself with the best weapons if you want to survive long in Sons of the Forest. The game provides you with around 16 different weapons to protect yourself with, but some are simply made better than others. That being said, these 10 weapons should be your main priority if you’re planning on facing against the Cannibals and Mutants.

What are The Top 10 Best Weapons in Sons of the Forest?

10. Torch

Torch is mostly used as a light source during traveling at night or spelunking, but it can be an effective emergency weapon. Although you can’t quickly dispatch Cannibals with it, you can “stun” and burn them. Grab a bunch of friends and watch the world burn while swinging around wildly.

You can also use the Stun Baton for a similar effect, but it’s a bit less efficient considering it consumes Batteries. Also, it does not burn things, so plus one to Torch.

9. Crafted Bow

Speaking of early-game weapons, Crafted Bow is one of the first weapons you can make in the game and will become one of your best friends. It’s not very powerful, and aiming with cheap Arrows can be tricky, but it gets the job done with a bit of practice. Shooting Arrows won’t attract any attention and they can be made for cheap. A reliable choice for hunting animals and any Cannibals.

8. Crafted Spear, The Best Early Game Weapon in Sons of the Forest

Another early-game weapon in Sons of the Forest that’s extremely versatile. The Crafted Spear isn’t only for stabbing as you can throw it and deal devastating damage with a headshot. It’s also handy for dealing with Fingers since you can stun-lock them by poking their legs. Meanwhile, use the combination of Molotovs and Spear to defeat Twins with relative ease.

7. Machete

The Machete, found on the northern coast of the map, is mostly used for clearing bushes. But thanks to its low stamina, fast slicing animation, and stagger effect, you can utilize it to chop up enemies as well. While it lacks the power to crowd-control and sever limbs, this Kukri-shaped “Machete” can reliably defeat unsuspecting targets such as Fingers and Blind Mutants.

6. Crossbow, The Best Bow Type Weapon in Sons of the Forest

Crafted Bow is good for quickly dealing with a bunch of Cannibals in the distance. But if you need more stopping power, you’ll want to grab the Crossbow, one of the strongest ranged weapons in the game. Sure, you can’t easily craft the Bolts but it only takes one headshot to take down a Brute. You can also put a Flashlight on it to help for fighting in dark places.

5. Pistol

What’s better than rudimentary Bows when taking potshots at enemies from afar? If you say a handgun, then yes, the Pistol is the right answer. It’s pretty hard to find as you have to locate a Raft or Maintenance Keycard to enter Bunkers but you can go loud or quietly with a Silencer. The Flashlight Attachment also helps light up areas without consuming any Batteries. Of course, when it comes to modern ranged weapons, Ammo will be your number one problem so remember to conserve it.

4. Modern Axe

There are three Axe weapons in Sons of the Forest, but only two can be considered the best, and it all depends on your playstyle. Most players will recommend you to use Modern Axe for chopping trees but don’t underestimate its killing power. You should be able to find it rather early in a camp on the island’s northern part.

3. Firefighter Axe, The Best Axe Type Weapon in Sons of the Forest

Meanwhile, if you’re good at timing and judging distances then you might want to take the Firefighter Axe. It’s the slowest melee weapon in Sons of the Forest, but it has the best damage, block, and decent reach too to compensate. One charged swing from this and you should be able to take down most Mutants and Cannibals. Grab a Shovel and uncover the Maintenance Bunker A entrance on the northwestern part of the island to get one.

2. Shotgun

You can always trust a Shotgun in FPSes, and it’s no exception here. It needs no introduction, just one shot, and you’ll see limbs flying all over your screen. It’s time to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And unfortunately for the Mutants, you ran out of gum. The Shotgun can be located in the southeastern part of the island, near one of the randomized spawn locations. We put it in the second place only because a firearm needs ammunition and stocking up on them can be tough.

1. Katana, The Best Weapon in Sons of the Forest

The best weapon in Sons of the Forest, as you can guess, is the Japanese sword Katana. While Shotgun has the reach, Katana won by a wide margin simply because it’s practically as strong but doesn’t consume any ammo. The slashes are really fast and perfect for crowd control as well. Once you obtain this weapon you can just swing it around and chop off limbs left and right without any care in the world.
