Fortnite has more than 600 emotes, and new ones are added every month, but some are rarer than others. Epic Games occasionally brings very rare emotes back to the item shop. Players could buy Widow’s Pirouette emote along with the skin after around four and half years in November 2023, and Hootenanny was back in the shop last April after a long wait. However, many other emotes have been released only once or twice and never appeared. Here are the top 10 rarest emotes in Fortnite:
10. It’s Complicated
This emote last appeared in the item shop on August 21, 2021, and was first released in Chapter 2, Season 3. The “It’s Complicated” emote is unique because it’s associated with a famous choreographer. Three seconds of this emote dance was based on Kyle Hanagami’s choreography for Charlie Puth’s song “How Long.”
But here’s the thing: there’s some controversy around this emote. Kyle Hanagami sued Epic Games in the Central District Court of California over the use of his choreography. This lawsuit has made it uncertain whether the emote will return to the Item Shop, just like other emotes caught up in legal disputes.
9. Go Mufasa
This Emote was part of the Icon Series. You could buy it from the Item Shop for 500 V-Bucks. It first appeared in Chapter 2: Season 4 and was last spotted on August 16, 2021, the ninth rarest emote in Fortnite.
The dance moves in Go Mufasa are inspired by Mufasa’s (CousinSkeether) version of the “BOP on Broadway” music video. Go Mufasa went from being Rare to Icon Series in Update v15.30. The emote appeared in the item shop every month until it was last seen.
8. Jabba Switchway
The dance moves of this emote draw their inspiration from the same BOP on Broadway music video. Also, the Jabba Switchway was changed in its rarity. Initially classified as Rare, its status was elevated to the Icon Series following Update v15.30. This emote was last seen in the Item Shop on March 14, 2021.
7. Pull Up
Pull Up was also released in Chapter 2, Season 5, February 28, 2021, and appeared on the item shop every month until June 2021. The codename for the “Pull Up” emote, “GasStation,” pays homage to the location where the inspirational video for the emotes was filmed. This is none other than the creative mind of @calesaurage, who filmed the viral video at a gas station, which had more than two million likes.
Jabba Switchway, Go Mufasa, and Pull Up emotes had homophobic comments directed towards them. All three of these emote music were from DaBaby, which had some controversy around the artist. This might be why Epic Games removed the emotes from the item shop, making them the rarest emotes in Fortnite.
6. Laser Blast
This emote was part of the Icon series Major Lazer Bundle, first released on August 23, 2019. The bundle was associated with Major Lazer, a Jamaican-American electronic dance music and DJ trio. One of the members of the band, Diplo, had a lawsuit for sexual harassment in 2021. Even though Diplo won the lawsuit, Epic Games blacklisted the whole bundle.
5. Laser Flex
Laser Flex was also from Major Lazer Bundle and shared the same fate as Laser Blast. The emote was last seen on June 13, 2021, and will remain one of the rarest emotes in Fortnite.
4. Bulletproof
Bulletproof is an emote from the John Wick Set. It’s a direct nod to that epic scene in John Wick: Chapter 2, where he’s in the catacombs, having a crazy shootout. When you use this emote with John Wick (Damaged), you can see the bullets being ditched from his suit as part of the animation.
3. Be Seeing You
Be Seeing You is an Uncommon emote in Fortnite: Battle Royale that you can snag for just 200 V-bucks, which is a pretty sweet deal compared to others. This emote dropped back in Season 9 and is one of the rarest emotes in Fortnite at the moment. It is also part of the iconic John Wick Set and all about capturing John Wick‘s chill vibe and his classic farewell.
However, the John Wick bundle wasn’t seen on the item shop for around three years, and maybe this bundle will have an epic comeback in the future, similar to Balck Widow items.
2. Head Banger
The emote also came with an icon series, the Travis Scott Set. All items in Travis Scott’s Set have become rare due to the Astroworld controversy since many people were injured during his performance in the event. Therefore, this will remain one of the rarest emotes in Fortnite and hasn’t been seen in the Item Shop for around three and half years now.
1. Fresh
Fresh is an Epic emote in Fortnite: Battle Royale, released in Season 2 on December 16, 2017. So, here’s the thing: even though the game says it was introduced in Season 1, it came out just two days after Season 2 started. This mix-up is because Fresh has been hanging out in the game files since Season 1.
Now, here’s the exciting part. Fresh is widely known for being based on the famous “Carlton Dance,” a signature move by actor Alfonso Ribeiro. But, because of some lawsuit with Epic Games, it’s doubtful that Fresh will ever return. That makes it the rarest emote you can find in the Fortnite Item Shop. Also, after Raptor’s return in June 2023, Fresh became the rarest item in the Fortnite game.
