After over a decade, the wait for a new Diablo entry from Blizzard is almost over. Whether you are playing gearing up to play Diablo 4 early as a Deluxe or Ultimate Edition owner or waiting for its release on June 6, you might want some games like it. Although you may find yourself putting hundreds of hours into the massive installment of the action RPG, a scratch inevitably starts to surface as you want something with a similar taste. The ARPG genre is rich with great games, along with other games in other genres that will match a similar experience to satisfy your needs.
Hades
The one non-ARPG on this list of games to play that are like Diablo 4 is Hades. It may stick out for being a roguelike, but when you get your hands on it to play with its RPG systems and combat, then you will understand. It is a top-down style that have you go through arenas to defeat a boss to complete the level. For a roguelike, it is punishing but one of the most approachable games in its genre. As you get stronger from permanent upgrades or have the temporary boosts for a strong build for a current run will make you taste god-like power that makes you keep coming back as you chase after victory. Due to its flashy personality and presentation, it will be hard to put this one down until the latest Diablo is available everywhere.
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the perfect fit if you want a massive RPG. While admittedly not like Blizzard’s fantasy ARPG, if you want an in-depth fantasy world with thought-out RPG mechanics, then this is for you. It has some of the best writing in the modern RPG landscape, leading to three-dimensional characters and intricate quests that let you navigate these stories how you want to with little keeping you back. Its turn-based combat might be different, but its variety in playstyles and classes will deliver more than Blizzard had done with its already impressive array of classes and playstyles.
Darksiders Genesis
If you have ever been interested in Darksiders, Genesis is the perfect way to get in. The prequel has an open door for fans and newcomers. This time around, it delivers new mechanics like co-op and the introduction of Strife, the fourth horseman, to expand the playable characters by an extra option. If you want a hack-and-slash ARPG, then of any games out there, like Diablo 4, Darksiders Genesis is a must-play. Whether you are solo or have help, you can blast and slash enemies as you gain better gear to feel like a true Horseman of the Apocalypse.
Path of Exile
Video games are getting more expensive, as most are $70 now. If you want to save money but love games like Diablo 4, Path of Exile is for you. It might have been released in 2013, but its dedicated fans keep it alive for you to jump into the MMO. Even its UI is similar to Diablo, with the bubbles of health and mana bookending the screen. Regardless if you are alone or with others, you will customize your character to feel you have a role in this world as you slay enemies and grow stronger. While an ARPG like Darksiders may scratch that old-school Diablo itch, this one sets you up for the latest installment by being an MMO.
Warhammer: Chaosbane
Warhammer games can reach any player, whether you are into a Left 4 Dead-styled shooter or want an action RPG like Diablo 4. Choose between its variety of playable characters for a solo or co-op adventure as you enjoy the first hack-and-slash Warhammer game. This new direction brought this beloved universe with dynamic systems with over 70 monsters, plentiful unique bosses for epic battles, and diverse classes to fit any playstyle. Between its size, classes, campaign, and other modes, you have plenty of replayability to sink serious hours into this fresh take on what it means to play a Warhammer game.
Titan Quest Anniversary Edition
Titan Quest may have been released in 2006, but its Anniversary Edition is the improved, ultimate edition that bundles both Titan Quest and Titan Quest Immortal Throne in a single game. If you wrote off Titan Quest, you might want to reverse that decision. With its improved performance, mod support, improved AI, new heroes, and villains, and more, you will want to go back to this world. It offers customizable characters, with 28 classes and 1,000 cosmetic options, so you and up to five friends can feel that you stand apart from one another with your crafted heroes.
V Rising
V Rising might be in Early Access, but it is already making people happy who want more games like Diablo 4. It has that darkness in this gothic, vampire-filled world that Blizzard crafted with its ARPG series. Similarly to the fourth, long-awaited entry, V Rising is an open world that lets you roam to grow your vampire army and feast on unsuspecting people. For you Necromancer mains, you will like this experience as you drink blood, raise an army, and build a gothic castle to store all of your goods. You can do all of this on your own or with friends.
Grim Dawn
Player choice matters in a good ARPG. For games like Diablo 4, Grim Dawn captures this with its post-apocalyptic fantasy world, where you make your own character by combining two of the six classes and developing relationships with factions. This massive world should satisfy a variety of tastes, whether you want roguelike dungeon crawling or horde as much of the gear available. If you need a good time sinker, then Grim Dawn will keep your butt glued to your seat.
Diablo 4 will release worldwide on June 6 and be available on PS4 and 5,
