Toxic Ohio Landlady Demands Parents Kick Out Foster Children After Single Noise Complaint: ‘If We Were To Have Another Baby, Would We Have To Throw That One Out?’

She must think they’re like pets or something

In these times, it sometimes feels like people have been acting more inhumane, at least more boldly. Cruel behavior’s nothing new among humans, but it still comes as quite a shock whenever a person exhibits a bit more heartlessness than expected. That said, a landlady managing a property in rural Ohio seemingly sees the foster children under her tenants’ care as disposable pets. Just within a single complaint from a cruel neighbor, the shady owner demanded that the parents “remove” the children from her property.

Unlike the Karen landlady or their neighbor from hell, the Ohio couple are not heartless beings and do not see the foster children in their care as disposable. That said, they took to r/legaladvice to explain their predicament, with the request of what sort of legal action they could take to stop their landlady’s nonsensical behavior. The husband begins their post by saying how he and his wife have been fostering two girls since last month. They informed their landlady in advance, but she failed to respond at all.

Things seemed fine until the parents’ downstairs neighbors, who are allegedly “extremely toxic,” filed a noise complaint, which got the owner to react in the most irrational way: demanding that they kick out the two girls. “I know for a fact that we have been very quiet, and I make sure our kids don’t jump or stomp,” the father explains. On the other hand, he claims to have multiple videos of his neighbor’s noisy behavior, including a few of them screaming outside. But because the neighbor has issues with the foster children, now they are the ones who need to go.

“What if we were to have another baby, (we have one), would we have to throw that one out???” the dad exclaims. “Should I get a lawyer to speak with her, or file my own noise complaint?” Needless to say, the best course of action would be to contact the case worker for the two girls, as the post’s top commenter suggests. Another user points out how it’s impossible for the landlady to evict children. She might be able to evict the entire family if they violated the lease, or she could choose not to renew it. But the demand to remove the children like troublesome pests is outrageous.

The dad explained that he lived in foster care for 7 years, which is why he has a soft spot for the two girls. “Any concerns that were brought up, no matter how small, cause me to move homes,” he recalls. “I just want these girls to have a safe place not in a stranger’s home.” Hopefully, the two girls get to stay with this couple, as they seem to care more than others might. But it might be time they find a different home with a better landlord and neighbors; otherwise, there’s more trouble in the future for the Ohio foster children.
