Travis Barker is doing away with a painful memory. 16 years after surviving a tragic plane crash that left him with third-degree burns on 65% of his body, Barker made a huge move to close that chapter. Luckily, he managed to move forward a greater cause while at it.
Barker has now sold the boarding ticket for that fateful flight. The Blink-182 drummer put the sentimental item on the auction site Trophy for a whopping $8,000. It was a Qantas business class ticket from Sydney to Perth. The boarding pass contained a meaningful handwritten message from Barker summarizing his survival story.
“I know I got angels watching over me.”
The artist also drew a cross sign with a black pen on the boarding pass. The site’s description of the item read, “Having not flown for over 13 years following his near-fatal plane crash, he was finally able to tour again overseas recently. This extremely rare commercial boarding pass is not just a piece of music memorabilia; it’s a true piece of Travis himself.”
The boarding pass was mounted in a museum-grade display case. Per TMZ, Barker will donate some of the proceeds to the Lost But Not Forgotten CA org, a teen adoption agency.
Travis Barker Credits Wife Kourtney Kardashian For Flying Again
The 2008 incident was difficult for Barker, who lost his security guard, Charles “Che” Still, and his assistant, Chris Baker, in the crash. His best friend, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, who survived the crash alongside him, died a year later. The injuries suffered caused the Meet The Barkers alum to undergo 16 surgeries. He spent months in a burn unit and developed PTSD that turned into a fear of flying.
It wasn’t until 13 years later, in 2021, that Barker flew again for the first time. His wife, Kourtney Kardashian, joined him for the momentous flight. Last July, the father-of-three dedicated his 30th flight since the plane crash to the KUWTK alum. “Just flew for the 30th time since my plane crash. Wouldn’t be able to tour or enjoy life again the way I do without the healing love of my amazing wife. I love you @kourtneykardash,” he wrote.
