Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift recently attended game one of the MLB’s American League Championship Series. The Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees were set to battle it out. The winner would advance to the World Series. However, Kelce was seen without any Guardians gear on despite being from Cleveland. This enraged Cleveland fans as they would call the tight end out for being a fake fan. Now Kelce has defended himself by asking, “I’m not a real fan?” This response just deepened the conflict.
According to TMZ, Game Three of the ALCS ended in a very dramatic fashion as the Cleveland Guardians came storming from behind to win. A pair of home runs led the Guards to take the game in extra innings with a final score of 5-7. However, when Travis Kelce Tweeted, “Playoff baseball baby!!! @CleGuardians have the city absolutely ROCKIN TONIGHT!! What a game,” some fans did not want to hear it from the NFL star or his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.
Travis Kelce Says That He Really Is a Cleveland Fan
“I’ve been a Cleveland sports fan my entire life…,” Kelce said. “Make it back to countless amount of games over the years, both Guards and Cavs just to enjoy these memories with my friends and family, WIN OR LOSE! I don’t wear Cleveland gear one time, and all of a sudden, I’m not a real fan?! Ask anybody that was in or around that suite on game one who I was cheering for, they’ll let you know I was there for the @CleGuardians.”
It would be an understatement to say that Cleveland sports fans are passionate about their teams. However, one can see where both sides are coming from. The Guardians have not played in the ALCS in eight years. The last time this team made it this far, they punched their ticket to the World Series. As for Kelce, the tight end seems to make a considerable effort to attend Cleveland sporting events, with or without Swift.
Travis Kelce Tweeting about an iconic moment in Cleveland sports history should be the least of the fans’ concerns. With Taylor Swift busy on tour and no more bye weeks for Kelce, they will not be able to attend another game anyway.
