In case you weren’t already aware, earlier today PlayStation hosted a State of Play, a showcase of games they have coming to their platform over the coming months. Plenty of games were showcased, including new IPs from both Square Enix and Capcom, along with additional footage for known games such as Returnal and Forspoken. While I’m not a PlayStation user myself, the one game that I was interested in (mainly because it’s coming to Game Pass on PC) is Trek to Yomi. At today’s State of Play, Trek to Yomi got a new story trailer showcasing part of what we can expect from hero Hiroki’s journey. You can find the said trailer below.
A Samurai’s Journey Through Hell and Back
Trek to Yomi takes on a black and white style, unlike most modern games, choosing instead to present its emotions through both action and facial emotions alongside its star-studded acting. Taking on the role of young and inexperienced swordsman Hiroki, you must honor your dying master’s wish to protect your town and its people at any cost. But when your own being simply isn’t enough, traveling between different states will be the only way to success. Can this lone samurai determine his path forward, or will he fall to those who wish to bring he and his people harm? Well, you’ll have to find out.
Trek to Yomi looks equal parts nostalgic and visceral, offering blood-gushing kills as Hiroki precisely strikes his foes where they’re weakest. But on top of that, it leans itself into the surreal nature of its story. Pathways and structures form from fallen rocks, and spirit enemies prove just as resilient as mortal ones. The game will truly prove to be a difficult path forward, but one only you can conquer.
Trek to Yomi is set to release on PlayStation 4 and 5 as it was part of the State of Play but is set to launch on PC and Xbox consoles as well later this Spring. Are you excited to follow Hiroki’s journey? What do you hope to uncover? Let me know!
