Call of Duty has waved farewell to offline gaming for a long time now, even though some of the previous titles would have allowed the players to play particular game modes without constant internet connection. Zombies, for instance, is a game mode that doesn’t necessarily require other players to participate in your party, meaning that if you’re a lone wolf, you’re welcome to play Solo whenever you want. But why are we robbed of the offline Zombies Solo option in Black Ops 6 and is there a rational reason behind it? Let’s discuss.
So there are a few reasons why this “Online Only” crisis has happened, with the texture streaming sitting on the high table. Basically, the game is too big and the texture size would grow so much that the game has to stream them from the servers with the least internet usage possible. This option is variable through the game’s settings, but still, there are no options to download all textures and play offline.
This is where things get to the second phase of this discussion. Considering that the textures are all downloadable now and we’ve got all the requirements for the local gameplay in check, the progression system is stopping the process. Online only Zombies and Multiplayer are there because you can level up your weapons and unlock new items like camos in these game modes. And when things go offline, servers can not directly track all you’ve done in that particular timeline.
For instance, some might find exploits and bugs to boost their progression and reach Prestige Master in a night, which is what the developers have been trying to avoid since Modern Warfare 2019. However, this doesn’t rule out the offline Solo Zombies for Black Ops 6 entirely. There’s always a fine line to keep both fans and the developers happy, even in this scenario.
There are many posts on Reddit like this one where a little shakiness on the internet connection results in losing all the grind in a Zombies session. This huge frustration is what most of us have experienced in MWZ and Black Ops 6 Zombies this year, and there’s actually one simple solution to it that Activision doesn’t seem to notice at all: Make this option to use the internet to track progression only in Zombies Solo sessions.
If the internet usage by the game is limited to tracking the progression and not streaming it, one can play Black Ops 6 Zombies solo without having to worry about packet burst in a match that has no other player in it. This would become a big step in the right direction for Treyarch and other Activision studios, just like all the positive feedback they got for the ability to pause the game and save and quit whenever you want to.
This won’t make offline Black Ops 6 Zombies a possibility, but it can at least help players never get stuck in a bad state of dying in a flash because of internet stability issues. It won’t require low latency for an enjoyable experience since you’re playing solo, and maybe they can add this option to save the game whenever you go offline, and then continue once you’re connected to the servers.
