California Rep. Jared Huffman released a video accusing President Donald Trump and Freedom 250 of misusing America’s 250th anniversary celebration. He alleged financial misconduct, data harvesting, and political favoritism tied to the anniversary events. The video drew widespread attention as critics called it “Trump Derangement Syndrome” while supporters backed Huffman’s allegations.
Huffman shared the video on social media days before the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. It quickly generated widespread discussion and sharply divided reactions across online platforms.
Huffman claimed Freedom 250 replaced the bipartisan America 250 Commission through a “shadow company” structure. He alleged the organization diverted taxpayer funding and sold presidential access through undisclosed donations. Huffman also alleged Americans unknowingly provided personal data while registering for anniversary events. He said the operation harvested information for “a political operation built to profile and target voters.”
Huffman further alleged Freedom 250 redirected corporate sponsorships intended for America 250. He claimed the organization promoted a revised version of American history through taxpayer-funded educational programs. Huffman accused Republicans of blocking oversight requests into Freedom 250. The video did not include a response from Trump or Freedom 250 to the allegations.
Public Reactions as Huffman’s Freedom 250 Allegations Split Opinion Online
The video quickly drew polarized reactions across X, with supporters backing Huffman’s claims and critics dismissing them as politically motivated.
Several users echoed Huffman’s allegations. One wrote, “Lock these scammers up!! America has had enough of these grifters.” Another added, “We knew he was trying to figure out how to capitalize on it. Now we know. Thank you for shining a light on his corruption.” A separate response stated, “Arrest and prosecute every single person involved with this shadow government.” Another user wrote, “The stamp of freedom 250 is now worse knowing it is a data collection for political ends.”
Others rejected Huffman’s claims. One response read, “You can’t put TDS aside long enough for the nation’s anniversary.” Another wrote, “The country is literally one day away from fireworks and you decided this was the perfect moment to drop your fan fiction.”
Debate over Huffman’s allegations and Freedom 250 continues across social media following the video’s release.
