Fine dining restaurants usually have a relaxed atmosphere, seeing as people often come there to unwind. Sadly, one restaurant in Florida got too tense and stressful after one customer demanded that the restaurant remove Black people from the premises. The man even threatened the restaurant that he wouldn’t return if they didn’t kick the Black people out. Videos of the worrying interaction have since gone viral.
The incident occurred in Osteria Positano in Miami, Florida, where an old man, seemingly of Caucasian descent, can be seen and heard complaining about Black people, referring to them with a controversial slur. The video was apparently filmed by one of the Black customers who also asked the old man, “Did you just say n[expletive]?”
The old man then went closer to whoever he was talking to and angrily claimed, “I’m never coming back here unless you get rid of these [expletive] n[expletive]!” It appears he was also in an argument with several Black people on the way out. Sadly, the video was cut too early, and it’s not clear how the restaurant reacted or whether the troublemaker was banned or where he went, but it appears he hasn’t been identified at the time of writing.
Osteria Positano, however, maintained its glowing reviews on Yelp and Google, meaning the incident so far hasn’t tarnished the restaurant’s reputation. In their defense, there’s one less racist to worry about. Still, the fact that people like him exist in the first place in this day and age has social media users worried, especially for Miami.
People online are debating who’s to blame
Comments were thankfully not split on the matter, and most appear to condemn the old man’s actions and usage of an old, controversial slur. Some even questioned exactly how often the man got out of his house, given his behavior. “What time machine he stepped out of,” asks one Instagram user, inviting discussions about racial segregation, which took decades to abolish in the US.
Others blamed the current US President for certain reasons, claiming, “TRUMP ENCOURAGES THIS,” where the comment seems to pertain to the old customer’s racist behavior. Such comments have sparked arguments, with some even seemingly defending the President, with replies like, “what are you talking about the world encourages this. Wake up!!”
In any case, others reiterated how certain politicians are to blame for some people’s openly racist actions. “Trump has some of these folks really thinking they can operate like this with no ramifications,” according to one commenter.
