California political commentator Hasan Piker faces public scrutiny after claiming on a recent livestream that Donald Trump has transitioned from a political figure into a “deity”. Piker argued that current Republican voters function as a “cult” completely at the mercy of the former president’s influence.
The 34-year-old Turkish-American streamer previously worked for The Young Turks before building a massive daily audience on the platform Twitch. Piker suggested that Trump’s control is so absolute that his base would adopt communism if the former president endorsed it. The commentator has faced prior backlash for remarks concerning the September 11 terrorist attacks and his defense of shoplifting.
Piker told his audience that the “Republican Party is completely at the mercy of Donald Trump” and described the former president as “no longer just a political figure”. A report from AOL noted that critics accused Piker of using the cult label as a strategy to “implement fascism within America”.
Piker claimed that the former president possessed enough influence to successfully establish a “communist party” in the United States.
“Trump is God for MAGA which is the entirety of the Republican party” noted the commentator during the broadcast, arguing that current voters must be viewed as a “cult”.
California Debate Piker’s Cult Label for Republicans
A critic of the commentator said, “And that’s why Hasan is jealous of Trump. He wants to be a g-d for his audience too”.
An individual commented that “Having morals and values is not a cult” and claimed that political slogans had been unfairly labeled.
One observer argued that Piker uses these labels to “justify violence against his opponents” and characterized the rhetoric as a “tactic as old as time”. The same contributor asserted that “Literally no one believes Trump is G-d or a Deity” and called those who agree “nothing but a useful idiot”.
One participant claimed, “He isn’t saying anything that hasn’t been said for nearly a decade,” and another person replied that the message is “beneficial regardless” for those who have not reached the same realization.
The public challenge to the commentator’s religious framing persists as the ideological divide over the former president’s influence expands ahead of the election cycle.
