‘Trump Is Very Warm and Likable’: Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman Draws Attention After Praising Trump’s Private Side and Revealing He Checked on His Father

Didn’t see that coming, honestly

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman praised President Donald Trump’s private demeanor during a podcast discussion about their personal relationship. He said Trump checked on his father during a serious heart problem and described the president as personally engaging. Fetterman also recalled dining with Trump at Mar-a-Lago despite facing criticism for the meeting.

The conversation focused on Fetterman’s experiences with Trump away from their political disagreements. The host asked what he thought of the president personally.

Fetterman described Trump as “very engaging” and credited him with strong political skills and personality. He recalled accepting Trump’s invitation to dinner at Mar-a-Lago in January 2025.

He then revealed that Trump had checked on his father while he faced a difficult heart-related health situation. Fetterman said they still disagreed politically, but his personal interactions with Trump had been positive.

He also recalled joining Trump at the White House for an event honoring Penn State’s national champion wrestling team. Fetterman said political party differences were not the focus of that appearance.

The host then shared her own account of Trump privately helping a struggling soldier before he became president. She said Trump sent her a $25,000 personal check intended for the soldier.

She said the assistance was not publicized at the time. She contrasted the story with Trump’s often rough public rhetoric.

Fetterman agreed that Trump’s private demeanor differed from his public image. “The private and the personal, at least in my experience, is very different,” he said.

Fetterman’s account prompted sharply different responses over the side of Trump he described experiencing privately.

“Trump is very warm and likable,” one user wrote.  Another focused on Trump contacting Fetterman’s father: “Trump checking in on Fetterman’s elderly dad is very heartwarming. Not something the mainstream media wants you to hear about.”

Others emphasized the personal gesture itself. “Wild how a simple check-in on Fetterman’s dad cuts through all the noise. Politics aside, that personal touch hits different,” one response stated.  Another wrote, “There are those may not like the man. But he is a compassionate person.”

Not everyone accepted that portrayal. “Trump doesn’t give a [expletive] about anyone other than himself,” one user wrote.  Another argued, “That’s because that ‘side’ of tRump doesn’t exist, bot. Every action he takes is motivated by his own selfish interest.”

Fetterman has made clear that personal warmth does not erase his political disagreements with Trump. Whether that relationship produces further bipartisan cooperation remains unclear.
