A father was none too happy when he was forced to pay $200 plus a $35 vehicle fee to enter the Everglades National Park in Florida. The cost was $100 for both him and his wife since they are non-residents; their son was allegedly free. That said, the dad took to r/NationalPark under the name Gabba-Gabba-Hey to express his frustration: “Trump took $200 from me today. I just wanted to take my family to the Everglades.”
Gabba-Gabba-Hey claimed even the security clerk was embarrassed to charge him such an amount. “She basically said, ‘It’s an order from the President,’” he recalled. The dad added that, at the end of their tour, they were encouraged to tip the guide and the driver. “Unfortunately, Trump had already taken our last $200,” he laughed.
Reddit Condemned Trump’s Paywall for the Florida National Park
Almost 6K people resonated with the dad’s frustration over the high cost of entering national parks. One person even apologized. “The national parks are the best part of the US,” the user wrote. “And they’ve been tainted by that greedy scumbag. I hope you at least enjoyed your time there.”
A good handful of people blamed the budget for maintaining the parks, which has gone into the reflecting pool in DC. Needless to say, many are not pleased with how that project has progressed. “It’s laughable that taking a few million bucks away from the parks hurts them so bad when we casually write 300 billion dollar checks for war,” remarked a Redditor.
One person accused President Trump of deliberately forcing such high fees on national park visitors. “I’m sure it’s to deter folks from visiting, then he’ll use the decline in data to reduce the parks even further and use land for his antics,” they said. “The number of people trying to rationalize this, despite everything else we know about this admin, is absolutely absurd,” expressed another.
Whether Gabba-Gabba-Hey feels as though the $235 was worth spending to see the Everglades is up to him. Though a few people commented that the park is definitely worth seeing.
