Florida-based conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has come under fire for his recent comments about President Donald Trump during his appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show. The political commentator called Trump “incompetent” and suggested it would not be long before the president was “gone.” In response, many netizens who watched that portion of the interview accused Carlson of alluding to the president’s mortality.
While discussing the possible economic volatility that may come in a post-Trump era, Carlson said in his interview with Megyn Kelly, “Trump turns 80 next month and I hope he has a great birthday. I don’t wish Trump ill… However, he will be gone relatively soon and we’ll still have this country.” Carlson said that although he holds a “gut-level affection” for the president, he believes the country needs to stop viewing Trump as the center of the political universe and instead focus on addressing systemic issues and national stability.
Carlson also compared Trump to other political leaders, arguing that things “could be a lot worse.” He specifically mentioned California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom he described as “far more malicious” and “far less transparent” than Trump. He said he viewed Trump as being “incompetent” in comparison to Newsom but claimed it was a “good thing.”
“I don’t think things are going well,” he said. “We just need to keep our wits about us and not pingpong from one bad idea to another bad idea.”
Netizens React to Carlson’s Remarks About Trump
There has been significant backlash on X from several netizens after the video was shared on the platform. One commenter wrote, “There’s petty, then there’s ugly. I’ve always respected Tucker, but this is gross rhetoric.” Another said, “Tucker needs to focus on his mental health, cuz I can see the decline from here.” A third bluntly stated, “TUCKER is IRRELEVANT AND has NO CREDIBILITY!!”
Some people took issue with the fact that Carlson brought up Trump’s age and believed that his mention of Trump being “gone” referred to death. “[Carlson] should really hold his tongue, talking about ppl dying soon,” one person remarked. Someone else added, “Death is God’s providence, rather. Never take life for granted.”
A few others also accused Carlson and Megyn Kelly, who had publicly supported Trump in the past, of changing their positions for financial or political reasons. “And just two years ago they both endorsed him. Proves they go where they think the money is. Pathetic,” one commenter claimed. Another said, “It’s amazing how some of these people kissed Trumps [expletive] and now have turned on him. I say the payout must be pretty good.”
Carlson, who was once a staunch supporter of Trump, has recently become a vocal critic of the president, saying he feels betrayed by some of his administration’s policies, including actions related to the Iran war.
