President Donald Trump’s latest medical evaluation is fueling fresh debate online after his physician declared him in “excellent health” following his medical exam in Maryland. That is despite figures showing Trump is now just shy of the clinical obesity threshold. The medical exam results have since sparked speculation and even concerns about the President’s health and fitness.

Physician Dr. Sean Barbabella released the report on Friday, following a comprehensive examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. The doctor concluded that the 79-year-old president remains “fully fit” to carry out the duties of office. Yet one number quickly caught the attention of critics and medical observers alike: Trump’s body mass index (BMI) now stands at 29.7. A BMI of 30 or higher is generally classified as obese.

According to the report, Trump weighed 238 pounds, representing a 14-pound gain since his previous publicly disclosed physical examination in April 2025. While his doctor advised continued attention to diet, exercise, and weight management, the assessment ultimately described the president’s cognitive and physical performance as “excellent.”

The report also addressed several visible health concerns that have generated public speculation in recent years. Bruising frequently seen on Trump’s hands was attributed to “minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking” and the effects of aspirin therapy. Doctors also noted slight swelling in his lower legs, but said the condition had improved since last year.

Not the ideal fitness level for many

The findings sparked a wave of reactions on social media, where many users questioned how someone with a well-documented fondness for fast food could receive such glowing marks. One commenter from Reddit even sarcastically wrote, “McDonald’s and Diet Coke is the key to living to be 100,” while another joked that Trump’s condition should be classified as “XL-lean health.”

Some even questioned the doctor’s medical reports and assessment, with comments like, “‘you’re in excellent health. you just need to lose weight and exercise more.’ said no doctor, ever.” For many critics, the report’s most surprising conclusion remains that a man known for fast food, Diet Coke, and limited exercise beyond golf is officially considered in excellent health.

“Nobody turns 80, eating McDonalds and dragging around at least 60 pounds of excess fat and not have metabolic dysfunction. He’s got to be a full blown diabetic and probably has NAFLD and at least one heart condition at a minimum,” speculates one commenter. Despite concerns, the president’s cardiovascular markers improved. His cholesterol level measured 143, a significant drop from 223 in 2018. Trump also received a perfect score of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, matching results from previous years.
