UPDATE: Police have announced that “no threat was identified” following several announcements of a hostage situation. TVA Nouvelles has cited unidentified sources claiming that the call was a hoax.

Original Article:

When it comes to the gaming industry, fans and developers can be passionate about some of their favorite franchises. Being passionate about a franchise is great but lately, some people’s love of said franchises has stepped over the line. Threatening a developer or others over something you do not like in a game is unacceptable. Yes, we can be disappointed with a developer over their choices; however, it is not okay to threaten someone else over creative differences. Just this year alone, CD Projekt Red and Naughty Dog were at the front of threats. Now Ubisoft Montreal is currently dealing with a hostage situation.

At the moment, little information has been revealed due to the ongoing situation. First spotted on Post Millennial, police have arrived at Ubisoft Montreal’s office. According to reports, there are dozens of workers currently held hostage inside. A tweet by Yara El Soueidi, a writer for Cult MTL, states that Ubisoft employees are having to hide under their desks.

Eric Pope has stated that he was on a call with the Ubisoft Montreal team when they suddenly had to leave abruptly. For those who are unaware, Eric Pope is the Senior Community Developer for Hyper Scape.

In a statement made to La Presse, a Montreal police spokesperson stated, “We received a call for a robbery in a commercial space. For the moment, we are at the stage of verifications”.

A news chopper has shown that multiple employees have currently evacuated to the roof. La Presse has also reported multiple heavily armed police forces equipped with bulletproof shields are on the scene. Paramedics are standing by prepared to act in case the situation worsens.

Ubisoft Montreal: Keeping You Up To Date

As the situation unfolds, we will keep you up to date. Is this an individual who was upset over Assassin’s Creed Valhalla or Watch Dogs Legion or is there something more to the story? What is behind the Ubisoft hostage situation?

i don't have any more information than anyone else right now, there's a live feed here https://t.co/blVtj4CAOn
