After being stuck in development for nearly a decade, Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones is finally ready to set sail. The pirate-themed RPG was first announced way back in 2017, and after six years of delays and developmental hurdles, Ubisoft has announced that Skull and Bones will be docking on February 16th, 2024. This new release date fits with their previous estimates that the game would be released in the first quarter of next year, but it’s always nice to put a concrete date on a game’s launch day. Skull and Bones will reportedly be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Editor’s Note: Updated on July 24, 2024 – Fact-checked and fixed inconsistencies. This article originally did not provide the official release date, but it has since been amended to provide current information. Additionally, any speculation on new features and gameplay mechanics has been amended accordingly.

Skull and Bones Release Date Announced for February 2024

Given that Skull and Bones was first announced six years ago, fans have been hopeful for a release date for quite some time. Unfortunately, the game has also experienced several delays, pushing the release date back to 2019, then 2020, and finally to 2023. A further delay occurred earlier this year when Ubisoft announced they were targeting a 2024 fiscal release. Barring any further delays, it looks like they’ll be holding to that promise with a February 2024 release.

Gameplay-wise, it’s not hard to see why fans are excited for Skull and Bones. Following the success of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Ubisoft was probably scrambling to get another pirate-themed game on the market. Skull and Bones reportedly works in more multiplayer features than Black Flag did, similar to Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves, but if the core gameplay remains unchanged, fans can likely expect another quality adventure on the high seas.

Skull and Bones‘ initial release will arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the latter also being playable through GeForce Now and Amazon Luna. However, no other platforms were announced. Furthermore, customers who purchase the premium version of the game will be able to access it on February 13th, three days ahead of the standard release on February 16th, which is perfect for Valentine’s Day, if that’s your thing.

Be sure to get Skull and Bones when it releases on February 16, and stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for more news, updates, and more.
