When you mount a camera outside your house, you better be prepared to catch some weird footage. Perhaps you’ll see someone trying to vandalize a property, or maybe snatch a delivery package? It’s the latter that’s more common, though in California recently, an intruder wasn’t interested in what you would consider a typical bounty. The house camera caught him coming out of a park, heading toward the house, then attempting to steal the doorbell. Yes, you read that correctly.
The footage shows the guy trying to pull the doorbell with his hands. He struggles for a while before deciding to use the handle of a bag he has on him. He attaches the handle to the doorbell and starts pulling until he manages to separate it from the wall. You can see a wire coming out of the doorbell, which is now in his hand. For some reason, he played with the wires left in the wall. According to the house owner, the crazy man then used a PG&E sign to smash the stolen doorbell. If he wasn’t planning on using it, why did he steal it in the first place? In addition to this, there was a housemate in the house who caught the whole thing live. I understand why he decided to stay inside instead of confronting the dude. After all, he didn’t look well in the head.
People Reacting to the Unhinged California Intruder
Due to how unhinged the guy looked several people speculated that he might be using meth. One person wrote, “Don’t mind him, he’s just the local meth electrician.” This made someone come up with a term for this job as they called it “Methelectician.” Someone else wrote, “Classic meth-head side quest.” Since the guy’s behavior was quite weird, one person compared the footage to that taken of animals. “I feel like I just watched a NatGeo doc on animals learning to use rudimentary tools. Like when you see chimps sticking a stick in an ant hill, etc,” they wrote.
It took some time for the intruder to take off the doorbell, so someone left a comment saying, “That doorbell held up pretty well.” One Redditor even tried to see the situation in a different light as they joked, “He was just trying to light his cigarette with a live wire, have some empathy.” Two more people claimed that the guy was definitely on drugs, as one of them said, “Classic drug addict doing some electrical work.” The other wrote, “He looks like a miserable crack head.” Aside from calling the California guy names, there was someone who advised the owner to have some kind of weapon near him in case a situation like this happened. “This is what a baseball bat next to your bed is for,” they wrote. The only thing I want to know is if he managed to light up his cigarette or not.
