When you go thrift shopping you should be prepared to find some interesting things. Well, an unlucky Florida thrifter found quite the surprise in a jewelry box she took from a thrift store. The box was shut tight, and her curiosity encouraged her to force it open, which she did. She then found a bag filled with what she assumed to be dirt. However, the bag actually had ashes in it. This made her wonder why anyone would donate this; it’s a good question. She was nice enough to think of spreading the ashes somewhere instead of just keeping them. Things kept getting weirder, though. When people pointed out that the ashes must belong to a pet rather than a human, the woman shared that she had a pet cemetery at her new house. Kind of terrifying.
Since this event was a bit of a shock to the woman, the video went viral. This helped her connect with the person who donated the box in the first place. Apparently, the one who donated it was a vintage reseller and she got the jewelry box at an estate sale. Well, this vintage reseller was smarter than the new owner. When she saw that the box was sealed shut, she wasn’t exactly excited to find out what was inside it. This made her decide to donate it instead. The buyer shared that she asked the reseller if she knew the original owners because she wanted to offer to give them the box back, if they wanted. If she didn’t find them, she planned to bury the box with the ashes in her front yard where the pet cemetery is. This feels like a horror movie. I could have sworn that I read a Stephen King book that had a similar story.
People Reacting to the Florida Thrifter’s New Box
People were just as shocked as the Florida woman at the fact that she found ashes inside the jewelry box. The fact that she bought ashes made someone say, “you bought a person.” Another commenter joked and said, “Someone DONATED their Grandma?!?!” Well, the ashes don’t look like they belonged to a human because there aren’t a lot of them. The grandma jokes kept coming in as someone also said, “Who gave Grandma to the thrift store ?” A third person wrote, “‘Is that a bag of dirt?’ No ma’am that’s meemaw.” Others were disgusted that she touched her face after touching the bag of ashes. “why did you touch your face directly after,” someone asked.
The video got popular enough that it reached a former mortician. “hi. Former mortician here. We *always* seal containers for cremains to prevent what you are doing here. Lol. Definitely a very small container. Probably a dog,” she wrote. Others advised the Florida thrifter not to keep the box even if she likes it. “Don’t keep the urn…. It’s not that cute. Put whoever back into it and give them a respectful burial,” one person wrote. Someone else had a harsher response as they said, “do NOT keep the container. By the insane amount of time it took you to realize those were ashes I’m sure we’d have to spell it out for you so.. DO-NOT-KEEP-THAT-CONTAINER and burry it whole in a safe space.” Well, let’s just hope that this lady didn’t get cursed.
