New York City is no stranger to unhinged behavior. However, it’s still shocking when it’s captured on film. Recently, a video showing a man on a NYC subway allegedly recording a woman sitting across from him has gone viral for that exact reason. The video, taken and posted by georgiapeach185, is silent except for background music. What it shows is even more disturbing, and viewers had plenty to say about it.
In the video, we see a man appearing to chat with a passenger next to him. He’s holding his phone low, but steadily focused on whoever is directly in front of him. While there’s no concrete evidence that he was recording, the position itself has raised suspicion. It was enough to make Georgiapeach185 uncomfortable, and for many, that alone was enough justification to post the video online.
“Does he think he’s being discreet?” One user commented. It received more than 90 replies. One of which said, “I think this man is a creep and don’t condone this, but there is no expectation of privacy in public spaces, and filming someone in public areas does not require consent… Now, if I were there, I would break this man’s phone.”
Another TikTok user recognized the man in the video, claiming they’d seen him filming another woman. “I’ve seen that dude,” they said. “He was filming a lady, and she noticed and got the whole train to shame him into getting off at the next stop. I think it was A or D USW-ish.”
Some viewers questioned why the OP didn’t say anything to the man. Others were quick to respond to this, referencing instances where women have been harassed or worse for standing up for themselves. “‘Why didn’t you confront him?’ … It’s like no one remembers Debrina Kawam was set on fire on a subway train in 2024 and no one helped her,” one user said. “Oh, to have the privilege of never having been attacked for existing.”
