Political opinions shouldn’t be brought into classrooms. It is as simple as that. There is a time and a place for saying your thoughts on politics, but doing so in a school isn’t right. One Utah teacher got fired from his school after a student filmed him saying conservative statements. The girl’s mother shared the things the Utah teacher was caught saying. Apparently, he said, “the vote was stolen from the current president in 2020, all immigrants need to be deported, liberals want slavery to be legal.” He also told the kids in his classroom that they need to “stand up for good moral values so the country isn’t destroyed by liberals and atheists.”
It was then that the girl filmed his statements and went to the school counselor to show them the video. The Utah teacher was then asked to leave before the school day ended. The girl’s mother also shared that the school made her daughter delete the video. Along with that, the district superintendent told her she can’t talk to anyone about what happened. They did, however, say that they only asked the girl to delete the video so that she would be distanced from the situation and won’t face any possible “retaliation.”
What Happens Next
The Utah teacher’s conservative statements made the school inform the classes he taught that what he said wasn’t right. The mother also shared that a girl from Mexico who was in the same class was scared after what the Utah teacher said. It’s definitely good that the girl decided to film what was clearly wrong without being afraid of what might happen next. The school even thanked her for what she did. We can’t say for sure that the school asked the video to be deleted to keep the situation under wraps. Maybe they truly didn’t want the girl to be harmed.
People Reacting to the Utah Teacher’s Statements
People shared their thoughts about what the Utah teacher said and how the school responded. Some were displeased that the school made the girl delete the video. Others, however, saw that it was for her own good, especially since her mother still has a copy with her. “It sounds like the parents and the school both have the video. It doesn’t sound like they deleted it to kill the story, but to protect the student. As long as the parents have it it wont go away, and they know that,” one person wrote.
Another person was glad with how the school behaved in the update given by the mother. “What a great follow up!” they wrote. To which the mother replied by saying, “Right?! It’s really the best case scenario.” One Redditor was afraid that what the Utah teacher said had happened before, but was never filmed. “Kinda makes ya wonder how anti-education right wing hate speech this school has covered up in the past,” they said. Another person said something I completely agree with, which is to leave politics out of the classroom. “I’m very conservative and I’m glad they’re handling it this way. Politics shouldn’t be in a classroom. From either side,” they wrote. Hopefully, this will teach the Utah teacher a lesson he will never forget.
