A woman in Orem, Utah, revealed that, as a kid, she used to collect and bring garter snakes to her backyard alongside her brother. This, however, eventually resulted in them moving into an abandoned house next door, something her eventual neighbors found out too late, forcing them to move.
Nicole, also known as SoundOfTheForest, shared her story on TikTok. She is an autistic woman who shares a variety of content, including stories, unboxings, and skits. The clip in question, however, rapidly gained virality. It garnered 7.7 million views, 1.3 million likes, and more than 4,400 comments in just over a day.
The Utah woman shared that her mother noticed garter snakes stopped appearing in her yard after Nicole and her brother moved out of the family home. That wasn’t a coincidence, as she revealed that they were behind it all.
For months, according to her, the siblings would go to a field and collect garter snakes. They would then put them in the family yard.
“We loved garter snakes, and we loved watching them, and we would feed the snakes to keep them in our yard,” Nicole explained, later saying they kept it all a secret from their parents.
A Colony Of Snakes
However, due to their undying love for garter snakes, the yard eventually became overcrowded. Those unlucky reptiles had no choice but to move into the bank-owned house next door, which was abandoned at the time.
Eventually, a family moved into the abandoned house. Shortly after, they knocked on Nicole’s family’s house, asking how they were handling the garter snakes.
“There are snakes everywhere in our yard,” the neighbor said at the time, according to the Utah woman. “They’re in our house, they’re in the walls. We can’t get rid of these snakes.”
Unfortunately, the neighbors never got rid of the snakes. After all, female garter snakes can give birth to between 10 and 40 young independent snakes, sometimes even reaching 80. So, as a result, the neighbors moved out.
Snakes Go Viral
The video sparked multiple responses.
Most users were having a good time, reacting to the story from a comedic standpoint. One viewer said, “You’re grounded. On behalf of moms everywhere, you guys are grounded.” Another one commented, referring to Nicole’s autism, “Me and my brother have been diagnosed for less.”
Other users found their snake collecting understandable. One viewer said, “In y’all’s defense, garter snakes are ridiculously adorable.” Another one added, “I enjoyed this story, but only because I’m not involved.”
Nicole has promised to share photos of the garter snake infestation soon. Given how many people are invested in her story and how viral it’s already gone, her upcoming clip will also be pushed like there’s no tomorrow.
