Throughout your bloody journey in V Rising, you’ll come across a handful of materials that only serve a couple functions but aren’t any less important, like Whetstones. On the surface, Whetstones seem to only function as just one of several materials for crafting a Grinder, but you’ll quickly realize it has so much more potential. If you know where to look, finding Whetstones in V Rising is relatively straightforward, but they can also be crafted.
V Rising: Where to Find Whetstones
[Updated May 7, 2024 – Replaced, clarified, and updated outdated information]
Early on, the recipe for Whetstones will be locked off to you in V Rising, but that’s not a problem. You can still farm them from specific enemies, it just won’t be as reliable. To find Whetstones, you’ll want to frequently visit these locations:
- Bandit Encampment
- Bandit Armory
- Bandit Stronghold
- Bastion of Dunley
The good news is that these bandit-occupied locations are found pretty early on in V Rising, which means you can revisit them to farm Whetstones whenever you need them. If you open your map and hover over the areas, you’ll even see that Whetstones are listed as possible loot. Simply loot boxes, chests, and defeat bandits and they’ll frequently drop!
How to Craft Whetstones in V Rising
Now, a much more reliable way to get Whetstones in V Rising is to simply craft them yourself, but as I’ve mentioned before, the recipe is locked. To unlock the Whetstone recipe, you need to kill Grayson the Armourer.
Since Grayson the Armourer is a V Blood Carrier, you can actually track him via your V Blood menu. He’s a level 27 boss and all you need to worry about is avoiding his caltrops; otherwise, Grayson is a pushover. Once Grayson is dead, you’ll automatically learn the Whetstone recipe and can craft them by combining:
- x1 Copper Ingot
- x12 Stone Dust.
