Marvel is ushering in a new age of Moon Knight with Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1. The new series comes from writer Jed MacKay and artist Alessandro Cappuccio. It picks up almost immediately after the duo’s dramatic Moon Knight #30. That issue saw Marc Spector sacrifice himself, leaving the Marvel Universe without a Moon Knight. Now, MacKay and Cappuccio are revealing the hero taking over for Spector. It is none other than the previous Moon Knight’s vampire assistant, Reese.
Vengeance Of The Moon Knight
It is a new era for Moon Knight and the Midnight Mission. The world was left without a protector after Marc Spector sacrificed himself to save Manhattan from the evil Black Spectre. Before his death, Spector left the Midnight Mission to his closest allies. This includes the vampire assistant Reese, Fist of Khonshu Hunter’s Moon, ex-mercenary Soldier, reformed criminal 8-Ball, and the hero Tigra. Of those allies, it is the vampire Reese who eventually picks up where Spector left off as the new Moon Knight.
In Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1, the Midnight Mission is currently sitting shiva for their fallen leader. Joining the Mission are other Marvel heroes, including Ben Grimm, Captain America, Hawkeye, Doctor Strange, and more. However, the group has a job to finish and a city to protect. So, Reese takes over Moon Knight’s hero duties. However, the immortal vampire admits that they are not a superhero or chosen by Khonshu. Still, they will continue Marc’s mission.
What Happens Now?
The issue ends with the Midnight Mission handling different duties. While Tigra hunts down Black Spectre in a mission of vengeance, Reese converses with Spector’s psychiatrist. She reveals they need Khonshu, currently imprisoned on Asgard, to resurrect Marc. And if they must, they will bring Asgard down to do so. Meanwhile, 8-Ball is attacked and beaten by a mysterious attacker who claims that the Midnight Mission is their house.
Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1 is on sale now.
