Vice President JD Vance is a bit of a controversial fellow. Despite just being the Vice President of the United States to President Donald Trump, he is also just a bad guy altogether. Why are we talking about him again? Well, he was corrected by the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer after Vance had accused the company of not having free speech in a passing comment. What’s worse is that the comment was made during a meeting concerning relations with the United Kingdom, where several other government officials and the press were in attendance.
It’s unclear exactly where JD Vance got his information concerning the practice of free speech in the UK, but it’s clear that he wasn’t briefed on it prior to this interaction. After all, the fact that he doesn’t even respond to the Prime Minister’s correction only further proves that he really had no idea what he was talking about. I find the vice president’s face funny when he’s told the information; as though he really didn’t expect someone in such a high position of power to say anything. It appears that many commenters in the video’s replies felt the same way.
“I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE NO FACT CHECKING!!”
Watching the video back, it’s actually embarrassing that our own vice president doesn’t know about the laws of a country we have such a close relationship with. Of course, he isn’t expected to know every little thing about it, but acknowledging the practice of free speech seems to be a bare minimum.
Immediately after Starmer finishes his comment, the room erupts into questions from the press, drowning out anything that the president would have had to say anyway. It’s a little embarrassing, considering how high up he is on the political totem pole. However, considering just who he was running with, I can’t really say that I’m surprised at what he said.
