Prince Harry and King Charles undoubtedly have lots of catching up to do, but first, the prince must scale the mountain on his path, Queen Camilla. Despite long-prevailing speculations about Prince Harry’s reunion with his dad during his touchdown in the UK for the Invictus Games’ 10th anniversary, fate had other plans. A rep for the Duke of Sussex attributed the failed reunion to the monarch’s packed program last week in a statement. However, royal experts believe something bigger was at play, with at least one member of the royal family singled out as the true villain.
Queen Camilla Reportedly Stands in the Way of Prince Harry’s Reunion With Dad
A source close to King Charles and Queen Camilla has weighed in on the subject, confirming the monarch’s refusal to meet with Prince Harry in the UK involved more than a full schedule. Speaking to The Daily Beast, the insider revealed that the King declined to reunite with his son in London because of his cruel remarks about Camilla in his memoir, Spare.
Notably, Prince Harry had some controversial takes about his stepmother Queen Camilla in his memoir. The Prince described the queen consort as a “villain,” also calling her “dangerous.” Additionally, Prince Harry reechoed his late mom Princess Diana’s infamous reference to having “three of us in the marriage,” from her controversial 1995 interview with Martin Bashir. Harry described Camilla as the “third person in the marriage,” also implying she couldn’t care less who got hurt in her quest to become a future Queen consort, even at the expense of sacrificing him “on her personal PR altar.”
The friend to King Charles and Queen Camilla explained that the King’s decision to not see Prince Harry was only a repercussion of his actions. The source divulged,
“Harry has made things very difficult for himself by saying such cruel and hurtful things about Camilla. Charles loves his sons, but he also loves his wife. The last few months have made it very clear how important she is; she has been the one propping up the whole edifice.”
Going further, the friend explained how Harry’s public show of how much he despised Queen Camilla forced King Charles to choose between them. Per the source, making his dad choose “was a silly thing to do,” as the King and Queen, who have been married for nearly two decades, chose each other long ago. The friend added,
“William had his reservations but he accepted his father’s choice and got on with it. Harry made a different decision, and one of the inevitable consequences of publicly calling your stepmother cruel names is that it becomes difficult for you to see your father.”
The Royal Family Wants Harry Far Away From the Palace
A second source reiterated this, explaining that the royal family would fare better without Prince Harry or Meghan Markle’s interference. The source, a former Buckingham Palace staffer cited the Prince’s latest London visit, which seemingly took the media attention away from the monarch’s return to official duties. The former employee divulged,
“The media should be talking about the king’s return to work, instead we are talking about a 39-year-old man’s daddy issues.“
Notably, other sources close to the royals share the same sentiments, agreeing the monarch shouldn’t be so receptive to Prince Harry after portraying his wife Queen Camilla as evil. Sources also criticized Harry’s statement announcing the king was too busy to see him, as “childish.” Regardless of what played out in the UK, Prince Harry remained unfazed. He completed his three-day stay seamlessly and caught up with his wife in time for their Nigerian tour.
