Virginia Firefighter Caught in Alleged Racist Meltdown, Department Blasted for Reportedly Promoting Him: ‘Not a Good Look’

Deserved backlash.

Captain Scott Hargis Firefighter Accused Of Racist Rant

At least two firefighters in Lynchburg, Virginia, are accused of using racial slurs without any consequences. One of the two was allegedly even promoted to captain, despite the evidence against him. The man’s racist meltdown has now been leaked, and the fire department is being blasted online.

The leaked racist rant was shared by Robbie Harvey on social media. Harvey detailed that a former firefighter filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city of Lynchburg. The suit accused fellow firefighter and now-Captain Scott Hargis of “liberally” using the N-word when accusing his wife of “sleeping with Black men.”

Hargis is White, and, as per the document, was promoted twice since his alleged racist confrontation surfaced. A recording of the interaction was shared by Harvey and is disturbing, to say the least.

“What [racial slur] are you [expletive] talking to now?” Hargis is heard saying. “Which [expletive] [racial slur]?“

As the woman, reportedly his wife, asks him to stop pushing her, Hargis keeps “liberally” using the N-word, with the woman saying that he was “obviously” out of his mind.

“You [expletive] [racial slur] loving [expletives],” the man continues, and allegedly threatens her by saying, “I oughta crush your [expletive] face in,” and, “You’re lucky that I don’t crush your [expletive] head in.“

“You are so lucky I’m not who I used to be because you would’ve already been [expletive] dead,” the firefighter allegedly added.

Backlash, Fire Department Blasted

The Virginia firefighter who filed the lawsuit was placed on paid administrative leave in 2022. Two years later, in June 2024, he was terminated, leading to the alleged discrimination and retaliation based on race charge.

People online were furious after Harvey posted the Hargis’ alleged racial rant. Every post shared by the Lynchburg Fire Department (LFD) is now flooded with outraged users asking for accountability.

“Lynchburg living up to the name huh,” one user wrote on Instagram. Another one said, “Wonder how much hate Captain Hargis shows minority firefighters. Violent racism is not a good look.” A third one added, “You’re showing the world you don’t care by trying to ignore the situation, deleting comments.”

The LFD has yet to address the incident.
