On December 20th, Clementine is back with her new companion, Javier, in the new series of Telltale’s adaptation of The Walking Dead. Instead of following the example of the other titles in the series, the third season will be titled “A New Frontier”.
Earlier this year, Telltale released a trailer introducing the audience to Javier and how the zombie apocalypse affected his life. In the launch release trailer, we see that he crosses paths with Clementine and AJ. Years have gone by because AJ was just a baby that last time we saw the two; and Clementine is looking rather mature herself. Aside from Clementine and AJ, another familiar face from The Walking Dead universe makes an appearance: Jesus. All of these stories lines will come together over a group called New Frontier. From what’s said in the trailer, they sound pretty similar to the Saviors from AMC’s television series.
With the introduction of Javier, we may see the opportunity to play as two characters for the first time in the series. A very mature, teenage Clementine is shown in the trailer, and I am looking forward to her possibly becoming the “Lee” figure in this season. From the look of it, Javier is on a mission to help his family, and Clementine might be just the right person to help him out. Much like the television series, we are starting to see more of a focus on human interactions versus zombie attacks.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will also get a bit of a facelift due to Telltale’s new engine that made its appearance in their Batman series. With the announcement of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, the success of their Batman series, and the launch of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, this has been a great year for Telltale. A New Frontier’s first episode is set to release on December 20th for PC, Playstation, Xbox, Android, and iOS. There will be a retail release on February 7th that includes a season pass.
