The loyal fans of Total War: WARHAMMER, are sure to be clamoring for the latest DLC for the title, Bretonnia, which releases before the end of the month. The free downloadable content for owners of the title will be available February 28th and in advance, a new trailer has been released showing the chivalrous knight on winged beast action gamers can expect.
Game developer, Creative Assembly, describes the land of Bretonnia on the game’s Steam page as, “the regions between the Great Ocean and The Grey Mountains were secured by Gilles le Breton, and Bretonnia was founded. Now ruled by the mighty warrior-king Louen Leoncoeur, Bretonnia is administered across a number of dukedoms. Bretonnian society revolves around a deeply ingrained code of chivalry, and her people offer fealty to their Goddess, The Lady of The Lake. It is said that a Knight who distinguishes himself through honourable deeds may earn her blessing.” They continue that the units of the land include, “the Knights Errant, to the Knights of The Realm, the Questing Knights, the Pegasus Knights and the Grail Knights themselves – revered as living saints and often accompanied in battle by mobs of zealous Battle Pilgrims. The rest of the army is composed of levy bowmen, men-at-arms, mounted yeomen and huge, peasant-manned field trebuchets. ”
As chivalry is such a large part of the Bretonnia faction, this race plays differently than the others in Total War: WARHAMMER. There is a chivalry meter that tracks and is fed by “heroic victories” and “completing quest chains”. Afterward, if your meter rises high enough you might even earn the fealty of the legendary Green Knight and “climatic endgame battle”.
In name of the land and the characters, it is obvious the nod of the Bretonnia lore to British and Arthurian history and legend. So if you are unable to hit your nearest Renaissance fair this summer then the Bretonnia DLC may be the next best thing.
