It is always shocking to me when somebody shows their true colors and lets their racist flag fly. And it seems Trump’s presidency has only made racists more brazen, too. For example, some staff at Cover Resort in Leavenworth, Washington were being racist to a couple of customers who just wanted to tell their side of their experience. Rather than listen and apologize, the staff doubled down and stood by their foolish behavior.
The customer (@erm.jayy on TIkTok) is recorded saying to staff she would like to request a refund. She goes on to say she, “had a bad experience with one of the men patrolling.” Apparently, the man patrolling the grounds told the customer’s dad, “You need to learn to speak English.” While the customer is repeating the conversation to the staff, the man who was patrolling attempts to defend himself. He claims the girl and her father called him rude. The daughter fires back by explaining that wasn’t until after he made his racist remark.
The male staff continues to defend his actions, saying, “What’s really rude is when you don’t learn to speak the language that’s in the country. If I went to another country, I’d feel really rude if I couldn’t speak the language.” This is stupid on so many levels. You wouldn’t take a course on a language if you’re just visiting. Another staff member (this one a woman) goes on to say, “I will have to say, it is very hard when there is a language barrier.” That in and of itself is understandable, but she couldn’t stop there.
She continues: “We have a group that will come in here that nobody speaks English and they’ll send a child in that’s like, six, and want them to translate. We have no idea what they’re saying and they have no idea what they’re saying” and that it gets frustrating.
However, the conversation takes an even more exhausting turn when the female staff member goes on to tell the recorder, “I do believe that President Trump has said English is the American language” because, why wouldn’t she pull out the racist conservative card? The daughter tries to explain how America is a cultural melting pot. And she’s correct!
Commenters agreed the staff at the resort were out of line and out of touch. One person commented, “That hostess is gaslighting like a MF. She almost got away with it too until she brought up Trump.” Another person said, “It figures. Leavenworth is an overrated sthole with awful restaurants. It’s basically an organized tourist trap. No wonder they don’t give a fk about customers. In WA state, the more you drive eastbound the higher the chances of running into this type of ignorance and racism.” Well, there you have it—from people who’ve experienced the area firsthand.
