After ICE agents tried to detain a local flower shop owner, the city of Charlotte has been on high alert. As detainments become the tragically new normal, many are finding their loved ones missing with no warning. When a local construction crew from JPA Renovations went missing from Lowe’s on Matthews Township Parkway, the owner raised questions.
In a video posted on Reddit, you can see what the construction crew left behind. As they were detained in the lumber pickup area, building materials, carts, and even their work van were left unattended. As the man holding the camera attempts to question ICE agents, they ignore him. Instead, they get into their SVU and drive away. Left with no answers and no explanation for why the construction crew was detained, the video was posted as a warning.
“I, for one, feel much safer now that those hardworking builders are no longer working hard at building things,” one Reddit user comments sarcastically. “We (non-billionaires) should all be willing to pay more for taxes, groceries, insurance, and everything else, if that’s what it takes to reduce the number of builders (but not too much, gotta build the big ballroom).~ MAGA ‘logic.'” Another adds to this, saying, “I’m glad they are targeting criminals and the worst of the worst. Like guys that do renovations. Watch out, plumbers, you are next!”
Some people were shocked at how close to home the incident hit. Many Reddit users shared how familiar they are with the area and that specific store. As some defended ICE agents in favor of detainments, many stood up to protect the innocent people who have been arrested thus far. “We don’t even know for sure that they hired undocumented people. Seems ICE is detaining first, asking questions later IF you have a lawyer who can get ahold of you at the detention center before you’re deported without due process,” one user defends.
