Maine activists protested Donald Trump and Elon Musk at a Tesla charging station in Waterville yesterday. “Musk Is A National Security Threat,” said a sign carried by one protestor. It’s a sentiment that many echoed in different ways. Whether comparing Musk to a king, a thief, or Napoleon, Mainers quickly denounced the oligarch. Musk and DOGE have slashed federal budgets and frozen funds across the board, throwing an already unstable economy into disarray. The result has been uncertainty, hurt, and anger for many Americans. The Tesla CEO’s blatant Nazism isn’t doing the brand favors either.
Maine Tesla Protestors Denounce Musk in Waterville
Earlier this week, Michigan Nazis harassed a Tesla protestor in Ann Arbor. Thankfully, the protestors at the Waterville charging station were spared such treatment. The more people that speak out against the fascism of Trump and Musk, the louder the far-right will become, trying to shout them down. That hasn’t stopped people from all walks of life from uniting to condemn the authoritarians in power.
A Reddit post by u/iknowyourded about the Waterville Tesla protest received many supportive comments. One was quick to note the snow and frigid temperatures, saying, “Woohoo 🙌 protesting in the ❄️. I salute all of you who venture where I would turn into a popsicle.” While some Redditors complained about Tesla chargers potentially being blocked by protestors, another commenter shut them down, saying,
Obsessed with the commenters who believe an effective protest should not inconvenience anyone at all.
A protest that disturbs nothing is easy to ignore, defeating the point of protesting in the first place. While the Waterville Tesla protest may not have led to arrests, government crackdowns at such events are becoming more common. As the police do their best to protect property over people, the lines dividing the privileged from the oppressed become clearer all the time.
