ICE activities continue to go on in Minnesota, and the latest move by the federal government has taxpayers lamenting, after almost a dozen Chevy Tahoes SUVs were purchased for ICE.
In a video posted on Instagram, a man identified as Doug recorded a scene outside the Whipple Building while he and an older woman tried to count cars. “These are new cars, they are all coming in,” the woman said to the man, who then provided more context, explaining that the cars were for ICE to use.
“So these are cars that the government have hired so they don’t have to use rented cars,” the man mentioned as he cited, “So if you wondered what should be happening to your US Tax, it’s being spent on that ten brand new Chevy Tahoes being brought in to the Whipple building,” as the vehicles were towed into the building. He then pointed at someone who was holding a Trump sign while another person was shouting, “Get them.” He explained that she was trying to get people to resist and refuse to let ICE in Minnesota operate with impunity. He cited the smaller crowd of protesters but noted that funding was still coming in and that they were putting in significant effort to support what ICE is doing.
He then panned his camera to another group, Valley the Haven Project and the Haven Watch, explaining that they had blankets, food, and umbrellas so that when someone is detained and later let go, these people take care of them. As expected, the comments section erupted as people reacted strongly, writing, “We are paying the government to murder us.” Another person wrote, “Of course, the ones they plow into you with have to be new and free of dents. One and done, off to the scrapyard!”
A user also noted how the burden is heavier on taxpayers: “Taxpayers pay the insurance also, which must be high as hell b/c ICE agents drive like they are in monster truck competitions, high-speed chases that have ended in death & countless accidents they purposely cause to get a quota or intimidate protesters. No ICE funds without reform🔥.”
Another user wrote, “But LORD FORBID we feed the hungry with tax dollars,” highlighting the irony of the heavy expenditure. A netizen echoed loudly, “This vile cancer needs to be eradicated.” Another user fired without restraint, “So we’re not done hunting Americans. ICE OUT.” “No wonder our country is going broke!” one person emphasized, pointing out the obvious.
Someone else thanked the Minnesota man for recording the moment: “Thank you for bearing witness to this evil,” while another person noted, “Waste of taxpayers’ money.” All backlash eventually fell back on Trump, as one user wrote, “Trump continuing to waste our tax dollars.”
